VIEW NRC DATES

Most of you will have heard of the National Rigging Certificate (NRC), which is now live and the take up is very high. This scheme, which has been developed over the last two years by some of the lead rigging representatives and employers in the UK, is a mechanism for riggers to demonstrate their competence and achieve recognition for their rigging skills.

The NRC will be the first formal way for UK Rigging and other employers to judge a riggers competence. As an employer of a great number of riggers, it will be essential to UK Rigging that riggers are qualified to this standard. It will be UK Riggings way to judge a riggers competence and prove to clients that our sub contract labour is without doubt competent, which has until now been extremely difficult. At the moment, during the quieter periods, qualified riggers will be chosen over non-qualified riggers. Before long, it will be imperative for all riggers to hold the NRC and a rigger will not be able to work in the UK without a NRC qualification.

As an experienced rigger you can fast track into the scheme at level 2 or level 3. You will do a 2-day assessment and for level 3, you will have an additional 1-day assessment at a site supervising a job. Most experienced riggers work at level 2. Level 3 is mostly supervisory; you should only apply for level 3 if you regularly supervise groups of people rigging. The fast track route will soon close. Anyone who has not had an assessment by then will have to begin through the Level 1 trainee route, which is currently under development.

When you register you will receive an information pack. This will tell you everything you need to book and take your assessment. You will also receive the NRC handbook, which is effectively a syllabus and tells you all you need to know to prepare in advance of taking your assessment.
