Aerial Artists in Liverpool Cathedral
Venue: Liverpool Cathedral
Dates: 22nd – 24th July 2018
Building on our reputation for supplying ground support structures for aerial artists, UK Rigging were approached to supply and install a 14m high goalpost in Liverpool cathedral for a gala dinner awards ceremony. Access to the working area would be tight; the cathedral would continue running services and would remain open to the public and there were flights of steps on all entrances.
In response to this, the UK Rigging team managed to install the structure overnight and without the requirement for plant equipment. The Slick GS masts were raised without the need for working at height until the end, when the sleeve blocks were secured.
Providing a central focal point for the stage, the structure was a custom configuration using Slick GS goalpost components and using Total Fabrication’s Serious Medium Duty truss for the main span supporting the artists at height.
To achieve the height and stability required, UK Rigging designed an extra support which was hidden below the stage. As the structure sat directly on top of the crypt, spreading the weight across a number of large timber pads was critical and UK Rigging worked closely with the cathedral to protect the flooring and adhere to the loading allowances due to lack of significant underfloor support.
A great night was had by all in attendance and the structure was removed swiftly in the very early hours of the following morning to allow the cathedral to open as normal.
