Grid Installation at Leith Theatre

As part of the extensive renovation and improvement works happening at Leith Theatre, UK Rigging were brought in to design, fabricate and install a rigging grid above the stage area. This custom-designed system provides a safe working environment for any future work at height within the roof above the stage.

Working within a heritage building brings a unique set of challenges, but by drawing on many years of experience and the use of some custom-built equipment, UK Rigging can work safely and efficiently whilst respecting the history of a building. At Leith Theatre, as well as removing 3.8 tonnes of obsolete hardware from the semi-derelict roof space, UK Rigging were able to retain part of the original winching system and incorporate this important part of history into the modernised grid.

The installation has not only improved access and safety, but also increased the load bearing weight capacity within the roof space and created over 30 new anchor points for future productions.

It has been a delight working with UK Rigging on this important first phase of safety work above the main stage at Leith Theatre.
