PLASA NELC Qualification

Following a very successful piloting scheme, the PLASA National Event Lifting Certificate (NELC) is now live and dates are available for booking.

The qualification is for operatives such as lighting, video and sound technicians who carry out rigging operations as part of their job. These rigging operations often include running hoists, slinging equipment such as trusses, set, PA stacks and video screens, operating hoist controllers and other rigging tasks that have an inherent risk.

The NELC enables operatives to demonstrate their rigging competence. It also provides employers and venues with a way of assessing and proving a persons competence to carry out rigging work in their building or under their employ.

The NELC is a one day exam. Candidates must sit a written examination which is followed by a practical rigging assessment. Rigging is often seen as an activity that takes place at height when in actual fact, working at height is only a very small part of a rigging operation. The NELC assessment does not involve any working at height.
